Heidi Klum believes the only way to be successful as a fashion designer is to be "involved in everything". The 44-year-old model launched her lingerie line Heidi Klum Intimates in January 2015, and followed that with Heidi Klum Swim last October. While she has had huge success with both, Heidi insists she never wanted to just put her name to something. Instead, she threw herself wholeheartedly into every aspect of bringing her ideas to life.

Heidi Klum has two fashion lines - for lingerie and beach

"I'm involved in everything. I believe that's the only way," she said during an interview with The New Paper. "Then, if things don't work, you can be mad with yourself rather than with other people."

This work ethic also extends to her modelling career, with Heidi adding: "You have to really want it. Some models don't want to work on weekends or after the shoot, but sometimes I stay longer and do something extra with the photographer or client...

"I was always eager to learn more and do more, and I always had a lot of drive to do things outside of modelling."

And while she first made a name for herself as a model, the Project Runway host has always dreamed of becoming a designer.

"The passion for designing was always there, and I've always made things like Barbie clothes or Karneval (a German festival) costumes with my mum," she smiled. "I was accepted into a fashion design school in Dusseldorf, and that's what my path would have been. But I won a modelling contest and everything shifted. And now it's shifting back."

Whether she's strutting her stuff on the red carpet in a glamorous gown or dressing for a business meeting, Heidi loves the fact that fashion is so versatile that a woman can increase her self-confidence solely by what she chooses to wear.

"A look can be powerful too, and make people go, 'Oh, she's not a pushover'. There is power in the way you dress. And, especially as a woman, sometimes you want to have that extra power," Heidi explained. "For me, that would be something like a red pantsuit - I feel powerful in that. Or I'll wear a dress and a bright red lip because it makes me confident."
