Idina Menzel has revealed that Anna Wintour is helping her choose her Met Ball dress.

"I am excited to be attending," she said, adding, "I don't think I can tell you about my dress because Anna Wintour is helping me so I don't want to say the wrong thing!

"It's such a glamorous evening," she continued. "I went once before and it's so beyond elegant."

This year's event will honour designer Charles James and the inauguration of the Anna Wintour Costume Center, which will be officially opened by Michelle Obama.

This year's theme is 'White Tie & Decorations' – in stark contrast to last year's 'Punk' theme.

Men will be excited to turn up in tailcoats and dicky bows, while women will likely opt for dramatic, Jamesian-style ball gowns.

WWD have revealed which celebrities will be paired up with which designers.

Prada will be represented by the current face of the brand Lupita Nyong'o and Downton Abbey actress Michelle Dockery; Prabal Gurung by Zoe Saldana; Givenchy by Amanda Seyfriend; J.Mendel by Taylor Swift; Diane von Furstenberg by Margot Robbie and Olivia Munn and Tommy Hilfiger by Zooey Deschanel.

Other celebrities to attend will be Jessica Chastain, Naomi Watts, Alison Williams, Taylor Swift, Emma Watson, Sarah Jessica Parker and Jennifer Lawrence.

Fashionistas are eagerly anticipating current covergirl Kim Kardashian's appearance at the prestigious event.

It's not yet sure whether Gwyneth Paltrow is invited after claiming that last year's ball "sucked".

"It seems like it's the best thing in the world, you always think, 'Oh my god, it's gonna be so glamorous and amazing and you're going to see all these people'," she told an Australian radio station.

"And then you get there and it's so hot and it's so crowded and everyone's pushing you."
