Amal Clooney was the epitome of elegance as she arrived at London’s Chatham House to deliver a speech on Syrian and Iraqi war crimes on Wednesday. The 39-year-old showcased a ‘60s-inspired ensemble, teaming a scarlet shift dress with a tailored coat in a soft caramel hue and giving a firm nod to spring-ready dressing with a painterly pair of floral slingback shoes.

The ever-polished human rights lawyer accessorised with a structured leather top-handle bag and discreet jewellery, making for a ladylike finish. The look is a masterclass in modern office style - skimming over Amal’s burgeoning baby bump and making a serious case for colour. Paired with a nude lip and a high-shine blowout, it’s a winning combination that will work as well in the bar as it does in the boardroom.

Amal Clooney works a colour pop maternity look as she steps out in London

The Beirut-born beauty announced that she was expecting twins with George Clooney in February and, though she often plumps for a monochrome palette, Amal’s maternity wardrobe has run the gamut from snappy suiting to matchy-matchy bubblegum pink get-ups. For her first red carpet appearance since the news of her pregnancy emerged, she turned heads at the 2017 César Awards in Paris in a splendid feather-adorned Versace gown.

Her red midi dress is a Dior number from the 1972 haute couture collection while the single-breasted coat is a vintage Balmain piece and the heels are by Oscar de la Renta - a very refined look indeed and one that can be reworked with a lightweight trench coat as the weather gets a little warmer. Once her working day had come to an end, Amal headed out to meet her mother, Baria Alamuddin, for a low-key dinner in the capital.
