It is an event expected to be watched by millions of viewers around the world, so it is understandable that Melania Trump will want to look her best at husband Donald Trump's inauguration.

However her sartorial options have been limited due to a number of fashion designers including Marc Jacobs publicly refusing to dress her.

Now WWD reports that Melania will wear Ralph Lauren for the historic event, following on from her sophisticated appearance in a white jumpsuit from the brand on election night.

WHAT DESIGNERS WILL MELANIA TRUMP WEAR AS FIRST LADY?

Ralph Lauren was a vocal supporter of Hillary Clinton throughout the presidential campaign, dressing the politician in a number of trouser suits, but it appears he is putting politics aside in the name of fashion.

The designer is apparently working on a custom-made gown for the soon-to-be First Lady, however it may be for one of the numerous events the Trumps have planned for the week ahead.

The future First Lady is also a fan of Dolce & Gabbana

Regardless of Ralph's political views, dressing Melania for the inauguration could give a huge boost to his brand. Nearly 37.8 million people watched Barack Obama take his presidential oath in 2009, which noticeably raised the profile of designer Isabel Toledo – who Michelle Obama wore for the event.

MELANIA TRUMP'S BEST FASHION MOMENTS

Melania has received some public support from a couple of fashion designers including Tommy Hilfiger and Dolce & Gabbana co-founder Stefano Gabbana, who proudly described the former model as a "DG Woman".

Tommy also admitted he doesn't think fashion designers should be swayed by politics.

"I think Melania is a very beautiful woman, and I think any designer should be proud to dress her," the designer told WWD. "Ivanka [Trump] is equally as beautiful and smart, although she wears her own clothes. I don't think people should become political about it."
