Lady Gaga wins £190,000 bid for iconic Alexander McQueen boots

Lady Gaga was one of Alexander McQueen's biggest celebrity fans, so it comes as no surprise that the singer was keen to get her hands on the late designer's world-famous 'Armadillo' shoes. The singer took to Instagram to reveal that she was the winning bidder of not one but three pairs of the iconic boots, which were auctioned by Christie's in aid of UNICEF.

Posting a photo on Instagram, taken by fiancé Taylor Kinney, the 29-year-old can be seen trying on her striking new footwear, paired with a nude bodysuit for one of her trademark bold looks. "When a gift comes to you from Heaven photo by Taylor Kinney best fiancée ever," she captioned the photo.

The Poker Face singer was clearly eager to get her hands on Alexander's designs, reportedly bidding up to £190,000 to own the three pairs which were on auction.

It's not the first time the hit maker has sported the unusual shoes, which are claw-shaped and, according to the label, "give the illusion of a ballerina standing on point". Lady Gaga famously wore a pair of the boots in her Bad Romance video, as well as when she hit the red carpet for the 2010 VMAs.

"Long Live McQueen," she wrote in the caption alongside a second photo of herself in the python-patterned shoes, clutching two other pairs, one black and another in a snakeskin print. "Look monsters, we got a sign of love from the beyond. Photo by the babes."

Alexander McQueen tragically passed away in 2010, and the singer recently paid a touching tribute to the British icon in a letter which appeared in V Magazine.

"There is no diamond, no award, nothing I ever wanted more than a memory of my brief friendship with McQueen," she wrote. "I am sad every day that I enter my closet, knowing he is not here anymore to dazzle the world with his beautiful, dark, limitless, brave mind."

The singer also revealed why it was so important to her to own the three pairs of shoes on auction.

"These shoes are the only tangible piece I have left of our work together," she wrote. Later in the letter, she added that the 'armadillo' boots reminded her that "he is still here".

"He is everywhere," she continued. "In every store window. In the designs of commercial mainstream retail, fashion, in music, in the heart of every young designer that wishes he could be as free and as fearless as McQueen was."
