Naomi Campbell has spoken up about how social media has changed modelling

With emerging supermodels such as Kendall Jenner currently counting over 18million followers on Instagram, the world of social media has allowed the new generation of models to share everything with fans, from backstage photos to sneak peeks at upcoming campaigns. Nicknamed the 'Instagirls', models such as Cara Delevingne and Karlie Kloss continue to build their ever growing fan base with photos from both their professional and private lives. Speaking about the fashion industry, Naomi revealed that social media is giving models today a significant advantage. "I just feel like my generation of women, like Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Claudia [Schiffer]," she said, "We had to earn our stripes and take our stepping stones to get to where we have gotten, to accomplish what we have achieved to this date. "I kind of feel like, 'My God, we've worked so hard and we are still working at it, then it just comes like that for them.' But I sometimes believe 'easy come, easy go'. So I am actually grateful for the way I had my career. I wouldn't want it any other way. So that's for them, this is me."

Cindy Crawford has also revealed Instagram has changed the industry

Naomi is not the only supermodel to have spoken up about the way social media has changed the world of modelling. Cindy Crawford also recently revealed that she felt that apps such as Instagram have changed the way models can build up their careers. "I got to be more than just a picture," she told Violet Grey. "Because of social media, so many of the girls today, like Coco Rocha, Lily Aldridge, Georgia may Jagger and Cara Delevingne, are brand-building. When I started modelling, there was no language for that. "I like the girls who look like they have real personalities," she admitted. "Like they are people I would want to meet. Georgia May Jagger is one I like to watch. Her pictures are beautiful but also interesting."
