Pregnant Kim Kardashian makes a statement at the Met Gala as she hits the red carpet with Kanye West

The fashion world was waiting to see what Kim Kardashian would choose to make her debut at the Met Gala — and the pregnant reality star didn't disappoint. On a star-studded evening in New York, Kim still managed to turn heads when she rocked up to the punk-themed event wearing a floral Givenchy gown complete with matching shoes and gloves. Rumour has it that in previous years Kim has been unable to secure an invite to the gala. But with her boyfriend Kanye West the headline performer at this year's soiree, the curvaceous brunette proudly walked the red carpet by his side.

She chose a Givenchy gown created by Kanye's friend Riccardo Tisci, made from floral print jersey with grommet detailing that attached the long sleeves and turtleneck. She also wore perfectly matching gloves and shoes, that were shown off by the thigh-high split in her dress.Her other half opted for a simple suit by the same designer, letting his pregnant girlfriend really shine on the red carpet.It has been reported that Kim chose to wear the floral gown at the last minute, according to Life and Style. "She had the Givenchy severely altered at the last minute on orders of her new stylist," a fashion insider told the magazine. It is thought that changes included the addition of sleeves to the dress.The previous evening, Kim and Kanye were spotted going into the NY home of Vogue editor Anna Wintour for an intimate dinner function. The TV star dressed to impress the legendary trendsetter in a black, short-sleeved Prada dress with red and white flower detailing. No doubt the topic of discussion was the following night's soiree, where an excited Kim mingled with some of fashion's biggest names.

Kim posted a number of pictures to Twitter during the Met Ball, including snaps with Donatella Versace and "Living Legend" Valentino.She also shared a photograph of Kanye performing at the event, during which the rap star serenaded her. With Kim's critics becoming noticeably more vocal during her pregnancy, Kanye took the opportunity to profess his love for the reality star, telling her to ignore the haters.In a video posted by model Coco Rocha, Kanye is seen singing to the mother of his unborn child, "Let nobody bring you down, you're awesome." Kim tweeted a picture of her man on stage, along with the caption, "Baby, you're AWESOME."
