Kaiser Karl wows with marriage of nostalgia and modernity
It was that time of year again, when fashion’s elite flock to the French capital to watch Chanel maestro Karl Lagerfeld's couture extravaganza.
With Diane Kruger and Alexa Chung looking on, King Karl unveiled a stunning display of feminine fancy on a runway adorned with vintage sketches of Coco Chanel’s lavish house interior.
Entitled “new vintage”, the idea behind the offerings was to modernise classic pieces from the label's archives.

And it was executed to perfection.
With reworked boucle suits, a 30s bolero jacket and other classic outfits that sparkled with a metallic sheen, the collection was a nod to the modern fashionista’s unwavering appetite for vintage Chanel.
"My own suits from 30 years ago, you can buy them like vintage," he said after the show.
"'New Vintage' is a proposition for something that could last -- at least I hope so," he explained.
"This is the same attitude, the same spirit, the same name, same concept -- but something for our time."
The 80s were strongly referenced in the collection with an array of ensembles in bold textured checks boasting padded shoulders and A-line skirts.
And the 20s made an appearance by way of pink tulle fringing that recreated a dropped waist effect.
