Flower power rules as Lily and co experience Galliano's 'floral moment'

You could almost have sworn the scent of summer was in the air at a Christian Dior show dominated by an explosion of colour

They are the loveliest among today's generation of style setters.

But Gossip Girl's Blake Lively, Hollywood beauty Jessica Alba and catwalk darling Lily Cole found themselves put into the shade at John Galliano's dazzling flower power haute couture show for Christian Dior in Paris.

The former enfant terrible of fashion took his inspiration from the garden of Christian Dior's childhood home, Les Rhumbs, in Normandy.

Dressed as a gardener in a boater, covered with a net and rolled up trousers, the maestro explained: "I'm having a floral moment".

So life-like were the dresses, many shaped like giant petals and others hand-painted with blooms you could almost have sworn the scent of summer was in the air.

Slender enough to look like stamens, the models had their hair teased into cones, adding to their height.

Another tongue-in-cheek allusion to the flower motif came in the headgear - cellophane-style headwear by veteran milliner Stephen Jones.

Clearly seduced by his vision, actress Jessica enthused: "I loved it. I want to be every flower in Galliano's garden".

Blake, meanwhile, made sketches of the designs as they passed by.
