Anyone who's anyone in the fashion world donned their best ball gown and stepped out at the Met Gala on Monday night.

With 'white tie' as the theme of the star-studded evening, a host of A-list beauties opted for pale and interesting ensembles.

Victoria Beckham stunned in a strapless ivory number from her own collection. She was accompanied by her husband David, who coordinated with his wife in a white tuxedo blazer.

Rihanna also wore white, rocking a Stella McCartney crop top and skirt ensemble that showed off her washboard abs and a peek of her ribcage tattoo. An undo, minimal make-up and big silver rings finished off the glamorous look.

Charlize Theron was every inch the Hollywood beauty in a white Dior gown with panels of black that created a tromp l'oeil effect. The star was accompanied by her boyfriend Sean Penn.

Also rocking monochrome was Sarah Jessica Parker. The fashionista and former Sex and the City star wore a stunning ball gown by Oscar de la Renta.

Keeping with the pale theme, Rachel McAdams topped the majority of best-dressed lists in her pastel pink Ralph Lauren column gown.

Nude had a big moment on the red carpet at the prestigious fashion event. Blake Lively stunned in a shimmering Gucci number that showed off her curves to perfection.

Fellow Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester also wore nude but in a looser wrap silhouette by Emilio Pucci.

Representing British brand Burberry was model Suki Waterhouse, who wore their pale ruffled ball gown. She topped the look off with a deep purple lip that clashed expertly with the hue of her dress.

Amber Heard, meanwhile, stunned in nude, shimmering Giambattista Valli.

Some stars stuck to classic black for the formal occasion. Gisele wore a plunging, backless Balenciaga gown while Beyonce rocked a sheer Givenchy number with a matching veil. Kristen Stewart, meanwhile, went for a typically quirky look in black Chanel with a feathered panel and the Olsen twins brought gothic drama to the event in all-black, vintage Chanel dresses.
