Marc Jacobs proves it's hip to be square at spectacular and speedy Louis Vuitton show

Paris Fashion Week: Marc Jacobs presents checkered dresses for Louis Vuitton

He once said he'd love to get a show over before the fashionistas had even taken their seats. Marc Jacobs almost achieved his ambition this week at Paris Fashion Week.

His selection of 64 checkered dresses for Louis Vuitton were debuted in a speedy nine minutes, thanks to models being whizzed down to the yellow and white chessboard catwalk in pairs on four sets of formidable escalators.

It was all over quickly, but models had been backstage since 3am having their makeup done and hair fashioned into elaborate beehives.

Marc utilised the hallmark Louis Vuitton squares – in black, mustard and ginger – giving his form fitting designs even more of a linear feel.

And the overall effect was unmistakably Sixties, though the man behind the designs said that wasn't his intention.

"I can't seem to avoid a reference when I design," conceded Marc afterwards.

"But it wasn't meant to be Sixties. The beehive hair probably aided that".

Celebrity guests checking out the creations included supermodel Natalia Vodianova, Kate Moss' ex Jefferson Hack and The Artist actress Berenice Bejo.

Socialite Poppy Delevingne turned up to support her model sister Cara, who walked the runway.
