Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana presented a colourful Eighties-inspired collection in Milan this week, rounding out the retro vibe with a London DJ spinning tunes from the flamboyant era, and special guest Boy George sitting in the front row.

Dolce & Gabbana muse Naomi Campbell was surprisingly demure as she launched the fashion extravaganza in a black pencil skirt and sweater set complete with a strand of pearls. In a startling contrast, she then hit the catwalk wearing the label's trademark stage-ready gear – enjoyed by stars such as Kylie Minogue and Victoria Beckham – showing off her famous legs in nothing but a hot pink furry jacket.

The British-born stunner joined the rest of the models at the show's end, with a parade of runway beauties in rainbow-design vests emblazoned with the word "pace" – Italian for "peace" – teamed with PVC miniskirts or trousers.

Milan Fashion Week began with a series of shows by younger, lesser-known Italian designers, with the D&G show marking the beginning of the higher-profile labels. Over the next few days, collections from Prada, Gucci and Giorgio Armani will take centre stage.
