When fashion designer Giles Deacon and his assistant were photographed leaving Pippa Middleton’s home in December armed with a number of large black dress bags, the rumour mill was sent into overdrive. The British couturier is considered the front-runner when it comes to the question of who is designing the 33-year-old’s bridal gown but has not yet confirmed that he has landed the all-important job. “I can never really comment on rumours,” he told Hello! in February.

Pippa Middleton's spring wedding is fast approaching

The Central Saint Martins graduate is incredibly passionate about the dressmaking process and is best known for his playful, somewhat theatrical silhouettes. His girlfriend is Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie who is often seen dressed in his beautiful, artfully draped numbers for red carpet events.

Since launching his collection in 2004, Giles has crafted statement designs for celebrities such as Scarlett Johansson, Cate Blanchett and Gwen Stefani, and he was enlisted to craft Abbey Clancy’s wedding dress when she married footballer Peter Crouch. His creations include show-stopping designs in brocades from the revered Gainsborough silk company and satin numbers inspired by opulent Fabergé eggs.

Choosing a gown is an enormous decision for any bride-to-be but the pressure is well and truly on for Pippa, whose sister’s wedding dress is counted among the most iconic in fashion history. Shortly after her engagement was announced, the younger Middleton sister stepped out in a broderie anglaise dress by Whistles, accessorising with a leather satchel-style bag and of course her dazzling vintage ring. If her day-to-day style is anything to go by, Pippa will opt for a form-fitting design, perhaps with a high neckline and some intricate lace detailing.

It looks as though the dress may be kept under wraps until the day of the nuptials but until then we’ll enjoy trying to guess who’s been given the huge task of designing it…
