Alexander McQueen has unveiled a very British collection for spring/summer 2018. The brand, helmed by designer Sarah Burton, rounded up the penultimate day of Paris Fashion Week on Monday night with a line full of nature-inspired garments, many of which were covered in floral appliques or embellishment. This gave an uplifting vibe to proceedings, with Burton noting one of her aims with the new range is to boost onlookers' moods. "So many terrible things happen in the world. We should celebrate people and fashion and creativity," she told WWD. "I wanted to celebrate beauty and femininity. I wanted to do an uplifting collection."

Pretty pastel shades added a feminine touch, such as a pale pink dress with frill detail over the neckline and across the skirt between sheer panels and a trench coat with off-white panels dividing pale silk material covered in an old-fashioned flower print.

Elsewhere, shades got deeper, reflecting the punky aesthetic the late Alexander McQueen was famous for. Models stepped out in bold ensembles like a bright red frilly minidress with black line detailing and a leather off-the-shoulder jacket that fell below the knee and was adorned in studs and featured red wings around the upper arms. The line only became edgier as the show went on, with leather also cropping up in the likes of a dark green dress with multiple straps, a jacket in the same shade featuring tartan print on the sleeves and a pair of black trousers.

But the girly, flowery theme also continued throughout thanks to a pale dress covered in bright flowers and boasting brown leather belt-like straps as well as stunning dresses in pink and red made up entirely of tulle ruffles, making the models look as though they were bouquets of flowers.

Burton didn't hold back when it came to accessories either, with the catwalk stars all sporting glistening statement necklaces and wet-look hair, giving the impression that they'd spent their time outside in a rainstorm - something not unlikely when it comes to a British summertime.
