Prabal Gurung unveil vibrant collection with the help of Gigi Hadid and Ashley Graham

The fashion designer presented his latest line as part of New York Fashion Week

Prabal Gurung has unveiled a vibrant collection of feminine garments for spring/summer 2018.  The fashion designer presented his latest line as part of New York Fashion Week on Sunday night, with Olivia Palermo, Sabrina Carpenter, Huma Abedin and Gloria Steinem all sat on the front row.

An advocate of feminism and diversity, Gurung's theme for the show was "stronger in colour", a concept evident in the models who walked the runway, including South Korea's Yoon Young Bae and Brazil's Samile Bermannelli.

Drawing upon his childhood in Nepal and a trip to the Tasaki pearl farm in Japan, Gurung explained in his show notes that the garments reflected his optimistic outlook.

"It is a bright, colourful and sometimes contradictory world that we hope to one day live in. It is a world that is free of bias, free of hate, free of prejudice. Simply put, it is a world where humanity reigns," he stated.

Opening the show was model-of-the-moment Gigi Hadid, who sported white shorts, a yellow vest and a black blazer, with the look accessorised with strappy black high heels and blingy earrings. Taylor Hill followed next, and rocked a pair of blue high-waisted shorts which were matched with a white bralet and white blazer. Gurung experimented with plenty of fun flounce with the line, including a bright pink minidress with layered frills around the collar and cuffs, while Bella Hadid donned a pale blue top with ruffled collar which was complemented with a white patent leather minidress. A standout garment was a sheer pink dress with spaghetti straps and puffed sleeves, and a silky white sleeveless dress with piped corset-style detailing across the bodice.

Of course, Gurung also included touches of his signature knitwear including dresses and calf-length skirts, but the finale numbers proved to be highlights. Ashley Graham stood out in a black sequin dress with fringed detail on the skirt, and Gigi returned to the runway in a red metallic dress with cutouts around the waist and a flowing skirt.
