New York Fashion Week set for change as designers decamp to LA

New York Fashion Week typically gets fashion month underwaywith some of the most hotly-anticipated shows from designers including Tom Fordand Tommy Hilfiger. However that all looks set to change in February as agrowing number of designers have announced that they are relocating their showsto Los Angeles.

Tommy Hilfiger is one of the major designers who has decidedto move his show to the West Coast, choosing instead to showcase his secondcollaboration with Gigi Hadid in Venice Beach on 8 February.

Meanwhile Tom Ford is believed to be staging his next show tocoincide with the Oscars weekend on 25-26 February.

Other designers who have announced that they are relocatingtheir AW17 shows include Rachel Comey, Rachel Zoe and Rebecca Minkoff. Insteadthe US designer, who showcased her last collection on the streets of New York,will be hosting a unique all-day consumer experience at LA shopping centre TheGrove.

Final details are yet to be confirmed but the brand's chiefexecutive Uri Minkoff told Business of Fashion that it could be a "wholeday journey" that will give shoppers a unique experience at many of TheGrove's different retailers.

Hypothetical examples include "a yoga class with modelsin the morning, a book signing with one of our influencers walking in the showat Barnes & Noble, or maybe there is a Rebecca Minkoff menu at one of therestaurants."

Meanwhile DKNY has cancelled its New York Fashion Week show,but rather than relocating, WWD reports that it will not be presenting atraditional runway show for its AW17 collection at all. In lieu of itstraditional format the brand will host appointments in its showroom.
