Naomi Campbell vows to fight six-month jail sentence

Supermodel Naomi Campbell has declared her intention to clear her name after receiving a six-month suspended jail sentence for assaulting a photographer.After being convicted by a court in Sicily on Friday, her lawyer Guido Carlo Alleva revealed that Naomi would be appealing against the sentence.

Naomi intends to appeal the conviction

"We are fighting the ruling," he said. "Due to the ongoing legal process, we can't discuss the matter further. "Naomi reportedly hit photographer Gaetano Di Giovanni with her handbag when he tried to take photographs of her and her then-boyfrien, Russian billionaire Vladimir Doronin, during a holiday on the island of Lipari in 2009.The 45-year-old is said to have scratched one of the photographer's eyes, which required medical treatment and three days' recovery.

The incident happened back in 2009

"I had just started taking some shots of her and I did not expect such a violent reaction," he said in 2013 after Naomi was ordered to stand trial in Italy.

The model's lawyers then reached an agreement with the photographer and he withdrew the charges, but prosectuor Francesco Massara orered the trial to go ahead in the public interest due to the intensity of the charges.
