London Fashion Week is moving to a new home this September. The style calendar highlight, which has big name designers flocking to the city to showcase their new collections in front of star-studded front rows, is moving on to pastures new after six years of taking place at Somerset House.

The British Fashion Council caused a stir on Monday when they revealed that it would be moving to Brewer Street, in the heart of the capital's trendy neighbourhood Soho.

London Fashion Week is leaving Somerset House after six years

"The long term growth of the UK’s designer fashion market is reflected geographically in this move that will see London Fashion Week designers showcasing collections in one of London’s most vibrant, diverse and creative hubs set within a mile of Bond Street, Dover Street, Mount Street, Oxford Street and Regent Street," said Caroline Rush, Chief Executive of the BFC.

"The new and exciting venue has already been dubbed as Brewer Street's ‘Fashion Park’ and will offer freedom and flexibility to designers who will be able to transform the show space to reflect their own aesthetics and identity."

"Brewer Street Car Park as the host venue is a brilliant development for London Fashion Week," added Munira Mirza, Deputy Mayor for Education and Culture. "With its position in Soho, it is at the heart of an area that has long been associated with fashion and creativity in general.

"I am sure the move will literally drive even more interest in one of the most important sectors for our economy."

As well as the new location, London Fashion Week will see its showrooms, catwalk and event schedule accompanied by a programme of free talks open to the public, ideal for fashionistas who haven't bagged a coveted ticket to the glitzy shows.

London Fashion Week will take place from 18-22 September.
