Karl Lagerfeld has revealed why he decided to stage a feminist protest for the finale of his Chanel Spring 2015 catwalk show at Paris Fashion Week in September. "My mother was very much a feminist and I thought it was something right for the moment," the designer told Fashionista .

The striking presentation saw supermodel Cara Delevingne lead an army of models including Kendall Jenner and Georgia May Jagger to storm down the runway, chanting and yelling feminist chants. "I couldn't care less if people are for, or against," said Karl. "It's my idea. I like the idea of feminism bringing something lighthearted, not a truck driver for the feminist movement."

"Everyone was kind of shy and didn't want to go out there yelling and screaming," model Gigi Hadid added. "We had to do a four-hour rehearsal because no one would actually yell, but once they gave us the pep talk, we were all so into it." Wearing tweed suits and colourful patterned blouses, models carried loudspeakers and placards with slogans including 'Be Your Own Stylist' and 'Ladies First',as well as 'He For She', a reference to Emma Watson's speech on gender equality at the UN. Supermodel Gisele Bündchen also made an appearance on the catwalk chanting into a loudspeaker.

The Brazilian beauty stars in the new video The Film for Chanel's No.5 fragrance, which debuts on Wednesday. The 34-year-old gave fans a sneak peek of the campaign on her Instagram account, sharing a photo of herself running along the beach with a surfboard emblazoned with the brand's logo.
