"I hadn't seen anybody else doing it in that way," he told WWD, explaining why he chose the newspaper as a way of promoting his work.

"And  I think it's fun, it's modern, it's not pretentious. It's like a private joke." 150,000 copies of the satirical broadsheet will be initially distributed across Europe and Asia, with Karl giving fans a sneak peek of the copies on his Instagram page.

The designer also spoke about social media, revealing his dislike of selfies, the self-portrait phenomenon which has swept the globe and been championed by celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and Miley Cyrus, who post their versions on Instagram and Twitter. "I don't understand it," said Karl. "It's like a talkative mirror where people talk to themselves. And what I hate most in life is selfies."

Despite having social media accounts for the various labels for whom he designs,  the fashion legend has kept an air of mystery due to his lack of personal interaction on the various apps.

"I don't do it for personal reasons because I don't want anybody to get inside my personal life," he said. "I have no desire to share anything with unknown persons."
