Twitter launches 'buy now' button

Twitter is one of the best ways to keep up to date with your favourite celebrities, fashion brands and friends, but if you ever needed any more reason to sign up then we have the perfect excuse. The social network is set to become an online shop with the launch of a ‘buy now’ button, so soon you’ll be able to buy a new outfit straight from your Twitter feed. Iconic British fashion house Burberry is already trialling the feature, although the service is currently on a small-scale trial in America, with Twitter saying it will 'grow over time'.

Burberry will use the new feature after their Spring/Summer 2015 catwalk show at LFW

With London Fashion Week just days away Burberry is planning to make use of the new function by selling a limited number of its spring 2015 nail polish colours on Twitter as soon as they hit the runway on Monday. Twitter’s Tarun Jain said in a blog post that their aim is to make shopping from mobile devices "convenient and easy" with users getting access to exclusive offers and merchandise from brands. Retailers will be able to embed a ‘buy now’ button into a tweet that also includes a brief description and image of the product. Nathan Hubbard, head of commerce at Twitter, told WWD that Burberry is innovative in its use of social media. "We’re testing with them, and I think we’ll break some ground with them and set some examples of other ways brands can follow," he said.
